The flash point is the lowest temperature at which the vapor of a flammable liquid, when mixed with air, will ignite momentarily upon exposure to an ignition source. It is a critical indicator for assessing the flammability hazard of petroleum products and a key parameter for ensuring their safe transportation, storage, and use. Depending on the test method, the flash point is classified as either open‑cup or closed‑cup. Light petroleum products such as gasoline and kerosene are typically measured using a closed‑cup flash‑point tester, while heavier products like lubricating oils and fuel oils are tested with an open‑cup instrument. Modern fully automatic flash‑point testers employ microprocessor control to automate ignition, detect the flash, and print the results, thereby eliminating human error and enhancing laboratory safety. When making purchases, companies should verify that the instrument complies with standards such as GB/T 261 and ASTM D93 to ensure data traceability.
